    I dropped out of hs at 16, got my ged, I was 5’ 11”, and weighed 125 pounds. Working at McDonald’s and believe me, no one picked me for their teams. An army recruiter came thru, combat engineer, he started chatting me up, said, you wanna join the army? Do you know what a combat engineer is? No? Oh, you’ll do just fine. Got out to fort lost in the woods, never been away from home for an extended period of time before and it only seemed like the day before I was in high school and I was. Went thru 8 weeks of basic infantry training taught by combat engineers. HFS, after that we started combat engineer training. Three men showed up, one from the 82nd airborne, a green beret, and a ranger. They screwed up by showing up in their berets, argued to the training cadre why they should wear them, bad mistake. After four days of training, they went extra hard on those guys and were almost immediately washed out, “administrative failure”. I made it thru basic infantry training and combat engineer training, five months with the same cadre. I went in not knowing anything, could not do five proper pushups. Left weighing 185 and do over 70 push-ups in under two minutes. The senior sergeant sfc, told me, never saw a 16 yo kid take on what some grown men could not do. He continued, I threw everything at you and you exceeded my expectations. Why? I did what I was told and kept my mouth shut. That’s all you need. Oh, and determination, I left home knowing I could not go back to the mountains of Appalachia. I was done, the military then was my life. Got my sapper tab at 16. Carry on “sappers”.

    Now, on the side of honesty, I believe a leader should tell the truth even it sucks. But now the bigger question is, do you take blame for your subordinates in case of a problem occurrence? Is that a diversion from good leadership. For most, that will seem like a badass thing to do but for some, it's a another cross to carry.

    I got sent about 4 months after arriving at fort Campbell. We started with over 300 people but only around 135 on graduation day. They failed out so many people on zero day. You can kicked for something as small as not having your canteens topped off with water. There was a guy in my unit that got sent three times and failed out all three times.

    Are the 100 woman who became army rangers legit?, or do they lower the standards for woman like they did in the Australian army, so the woman could make it through infantry training. Genuinely interested.

    • @bestieswithtesties
      @bestieswithtesties 5 днів тому

      No, American special forces never have and almost certainly never will lower their standards just to let women in. Plenty of women have tried the selection courses and they will tell you themselves just how often the instructors love to repeat that they're "not going to lower the standards just because you're a girl". They never hear the end of it. So yes those rangers are legit rangers.
